Why Christian Counseling?

Christian counseling with Lorna integrates biblical wisdom with evidence-based care. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, grief, relationships, or spiritual struggles, this is a space where your faith in Christ can guide the healing process. Here, reflection, Scripture, and clinical expertise work together to help you find peace, clarity, and strength in Him.

Some therapists tiptoe around your faith. Others treat it like the problem. Here, your beliefs are welcomed, not ignored or sidelined. And this difference is more than personal experience. Research shows that when therapy honors a client’s faith, spiritual well-being rises and quality of life improves. The figures below highlight some of these findings.

Figure 1 shows levels of spiritual well-being after therapy. Faith-integrated counseling raised clients to the 63rd percentile, compared to the 50th percentile for standard secular therapy. This represents a 13-point lift in spiritual well-being when faith is actively incorporated into treatment. In these studies, spiritual well-being included feeling closer to God, finding greater peace through prayer, experiencing less guilt and shame around faith, and gaining a stronger sense of purpose and meaning.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” – Psalm 29:11

Figure 2 shows the results of 10 studies on spirituality and quality of life. Nine studies found that higher spirituality or religiousness was associated with better health-related quality of life, while only one study did not. In these studies, quality of life meant more than just general well-being. It included better emotional health (less anxiety and depression, greater peace of mind), a stronger sense of meaning and purpose, closer relationships and social support, and improved ability to handle daily responsibilities.

What makes Christian counseling different?

Faith is respected, never imposed.
Every client’s journey with God looks different. In Christian counseling, Scripture, prayer, and faith-based reflection are always available but never forced. You decide whether and how they’re woven into your sessions. Some clients lean deeply into prayer and biblical guidance. Others prefer a lighter touch, drawing on Christian principles while focusing mainly on counseling dialogue.

Grounded in Scripture and Truth.
At A.J.B. Counseling & Psychotherapy, Christian counseling is rooted in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. While evidence-based methods provide practical tools for growth, Scripture offers the deeper foundation for lasting peace and direction. Clients are invited to draw strength from biblical wisdom, finding clarity and stability in a world that often feels uncertain.
